Abu Dhabi A Dh6.25 million humanitarian plan funded by Dubai Cares will help put more than 7,000 Bosnian children in early education over two years, with greater inclusion of disabled children. Increasing early learning opportunities for children in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a partnership between the United Nations Children's Fund charity Dubai, aims to provide a framework of sustainable education for children aged between 4 and 6 in the country. As part of the initiative, 400 children and 350 youth with delays or learning difficulties, aged between 4 and 5, now have access to preschool education. A delegation from Dubai Cares traveled to Sarajevo and in the cities and surrounding villages to see the progress. Under current standards in Bosnia, free and compulsory education begins only once a child reaches 7, missing the vital early development. "Education is one of the most powerful tools that can be used in the fight against poverty," said Tariq Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares. "Its importance is magnified in countries like Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the educated youth should play a key role in the growth and prosperity of this country changing. The latest UNICEF statistics show that only 15 percent of children across the country are enrolled in pre-school, considered essential for education and future employment of students. the figure drops to just 2 percent for the marginalized and the poor Roma population, estimated at less than 100,000. the main objectives of the initiative are social inclusion, education for children with disabilities and learning more hours
