first intelligent Mosque opens in Dubai
Dubai : The United Arab Emirates has opened its first mosque smart in Dubai last fortnight. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and charitable activities (DIACA) launched the Mosque Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Jumeirah 3, using the rapid response technology (QR) Code, which provides digital access to mosques. The mosque is now equipped with QR code technology for the first time in government buildings and part of Phase-I to develop intelligent mosques which also includes nine other mosques follow suit later this year, according to a published report in Khaleej Times. Through QR code technology, people can obtain general information on a mosque - its history, ability, nature, area, prayer schedules, conferences or courses offered by the mosque, as well as information about Friday sermon, around the clock. The move is in line with the Smart Government initiative announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Dr Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General of DIACA, said interactive services available are accessible via smartphones and tablets 24X7. Nassir Mubarak, head of the computer section of DIACA, said that the proposed smart mosques is a new channel aimed at better communication with the public. The public can also send their suggestions, remarks, comments, complaints or reports of malfunctions thanks to the initiative of Smart mosque. QR Code is the brand name for the two dimensional barcode system that was originally invented in 1994 by Denso Wave subsidiary Toyota, as a way to track the vehicles assembled in one place, and analyze high-speed components. QR codes have long expanded their usefulness beyond the automotive industry. QR code technology allows people to access a special web page of the mosque by scanning its bar code with a smart phone or a tablet that are automatically equipped with this technology, if an application for QR code can be downloaded easily for online stores concerned.
