Turkish Mosque built giant complex opened in South Africa

A complex of giant mosque built by Turkey with 55 meter (180- foot) Ottoman minarets towering over a religious center, is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The Nizamiye Mosque dominates the clear sky on the main highway between Pretoria capital and economic center of Johannesburg. President Jacob Zuma cut a red ribbon at the entrance of the structure, flanked by ministers of South Africa and Turkey government. Built in three years, the complex has a central mosque, bazaar, Islamic school, sports fields and a clinic. Turkish property developer Rich, Orhan Celik built the complex with the blessing of Nelson Mandela, Nobel Laureate and first black president. Mandela insisted that the clinic is included. The magnificent yellow structure, with its 24 meters (80 feet) diameter dome is a replica of the 16th century Selimiye Mosque, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in the city of Edirne in Turkey.
