Banja Luka: Thousands of Muslims flocked to Banja Luka, the capital of the Serb region of Bosnia recently for reopening of a historic mosque destroyed during the war, a ceremony considered encouraging religious tolerance in the deeply divided communities. Twenty years after the devastating war between its Muslim Bosnians, Orthodox Serbs and Catholic Croats, Bosnia remains divided along ethnic lines. The return of Muslims to the Ferhadija mosque rebuilt in large Serbian part of Banja Luka offered hope for change for many. Outgoing Prime Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, whose country has contributed to the cost of reconstruction, reopened the mosque amid a congregation of 10,000 people, declaring that the new building has sent a message of peace.
