Chinese and Swiss Professor, among Abdullah's translation prize winners
Riyadh: The winners of the 7th International Price King Abdullah of translation were announced at a ceremony at the headquarters King Abdulaziz public Library here last month. The price took its origin from King Abdullah's vision to build a society based on knowledge and cultural dialogue between peoples. Abdurahman Bin Faisal Bin Muammar, King Abdullah's advisor and supervisor of the library, said the Board considered 154 translation services in 13 languages in 18 countries for awards in six categories. The Board decided to retain the price of translation in natural sciences from Arabic into other languages because the works submitted do not meet the required standards.
Saeed Bin Saeed Al-Faiz, general secretary of the prize, said the prize in the category of institutions was shared by the Egyptian National Centre for translations and the Tunisian Academy of Social Sciences. In the category of the translation natural sciences from other languages into Arabic, Marwan Al-Jabar Hassan Salman and Wazrah Layeqa shared the prize with Saleem Masudi, Abdul Salam Al-Yagfouri and Samia Shaalal for translation of English and french respectively.
Mustafa Muhammad Qasim (in English), Bassam Baraka (French) and Abdulaziz Al-Buraithin (English) were the co-winners in the category of Humanities other languages into Arabic. The cost in human sciences from Arabic to other languages was shared by Saleh Al-Anzi, who translated the book "History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" in French, in collaboration with Peter Adamson, who Borman and Peter translated the book "philosophical messages of Al -Kindi" in English.
Al-Saeed said the award in the category of efforts in the translation by individuals was bagged jointly by Professor Choi Wei Li of Shanghai University in appreciation of his translation of books Arab and Islamic culture in Chinese, and the Swiss professor Hana Laura Li Yanka, honorary president of the permanent international Conference for Institutes for translators of the University, for his contribution to the promotion of translation studies and training translators.
