Jeddah: The OIC Observatory on Islamophobia released its 7th annual report covering the period from October 2013 April 2014, on the sidelines of the 41st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah. The report shows that Islamophobia continues to manifest itself through various forms of prejudice and discrimination against Muslims as individuals and as a community. The report includes five chapters identified contemporary manifestations of Islamophobia, acknowledging both the negative trends and best practices of the Observatory during the period. In his foreword to the report, the Secretary-General, Iyad Amin Madani stressed the importance to continue the well recognized way designed to address the issue of Islamophobia by resolution 16/18 HRC. "The OIC believes that pluralism and diversity are an opportunity for cultures and civilizations to open respectfully interact and better understand and enrich each other. Maintaining an open, respectful and constructive ideas is essential to our understanding of the various forms and manifestations of intolerance and to find appropriate solutions to better address their negative impact. the international community must cooperate at all levels to address this increasing trend of discrimination religion or belief, which is also a threat to the values of pluralism, peace and global harmony. "
for the annual report this year on Islamophobia, the Observatory decided to expand its scope of analysis and coverage taking into account the alarming incidents of Islamophobia demonstrations in many parts of the world, including the issue of the Rohingyas, the situation of Muslims in Sri Lanka, the alleged prohibition of Islam Angola, fears of Muslim Tatars in Crimea, and the persecution of Muslims in the ongoing war in the Central African Republic. This may be a new trend influenced by certain Western media circles that propagate fascist and irresponsible hate speech anti-Islam.
The report's conclusion states that the support of part of the political leadership and inaction on the part of some governments to take legal action against the perpetrators of Islamophobia in the west, it is up and gain strength. Such inaction is used to propagate negative stereotypes about Islam, including the idea that Islam is linked to terror; he is intolerant of other religious beliefs; that its values and practices are incompatible with modern democratic systems; it encourages the repression of freedom of expression and that it violates human rights.
Finally, specific recommendations are made to encourage Muslim communities living in the West to do more to fight against Islamophobia or any sort of xenophobic and racist discourse, which may have more chance of being crowned success with the support of the OIC Member States.
