Dr Mahathir Indicates Muslims to accept differences
Kuala Lumpur Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged Muslims to accept differences of opinion. Dr Mahathir, known for his progressive views on Islam, noted that Muslims tend to exaggerate their differences rather than their common goal, and said it was one of the main factors that divide the Muslim community and makes low. He said he has no right of every Muslim to declare those who do not share similar views as un-Islamic, noting that as long as they take the "ikraq" (pledge), they are considered as Muslims. "We as Muslims, we are Shiite or Sunni, we read the shahadah kalimah ... where we proclaim Allah is our God and Muhammad as his messenger. As long as they keep this ikraq, they are considered Muslims" , he said. "We do not have the right to declare a non-Muslim person just because they think differently, dress differently or do not look like us," he added.
