Scholars of Indonesia to call Halal Medicine
Jakarta top Islamic body in Indonesia called for the implementation of halal rules on pharmaceuticals such as drugs and vaccines, calling for halal certification and labels in the archipelago of the Muslim majority. "Pharmaceuticals are the same as food and, therefore, must be halal, before being consumed by Muslims," Marouf Amin, President of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), was quoted by Abtara News. The MUI chairman added that the government must respect the rights of Muslims from consuming drugs and vaccines haram, adding that the consumption of halal products was part of Muslim belief and faith. "The certification of pharmaceuticals is part of efforts to protect Muslims from consuming haram (not allowed) drugs," he said. "The halal and haram issues must be fully regulated by law. Therefore, the government needs to develop a bill on the product warranty Halal" added Amin. The halal regulation were more urgent in medicine and vaccines, products that control the lives of many Indonesian Muslims
