Women Scholars in Morocco's Religious Council
Rabat: King Mohammed VI said that more university Muslim women should be represented in the major religious organizations in the country. The Higher Council of Ulema is chaired by King Mohammed VI. The Council consists of the Minister of Islamic Affairs, 30 presidents of regional associations, the General Secretary and 15 other theologians appointed by the King. Created in 1981, 35 women in regional councils and a woman in the Supreme Council.
According to the Moroccan Constitution, the Council alone is authorized to comment on religious issues and issue fatwas in Morocco.
