Turkey is hosting the first American Muslim Latin Conference
Istanbul: The first Muslim religious leaders in Latin America Summit, hosted 76 religious leaders from over 40 countries last fortnight in Istanbul to discuss issues surrounding Muslims living in Latin America.
during the meeting, questions lack of organizations to respond to the religious education of children and lack of Spanish-speaking imams around was raised. Organized by the Department of Religious Affairs under the title "Building our Tradition and Future" and assisted by Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Venezuela, Peru and Colombia, questions regarding Muslim minorities in South America was discussed.
Other countries including Costa Rica, Haiti, Honduras and Jamaica and other countries represent a population of nearly 4.5 million Muslims in South America, as well as those of Brazil and Argentina . The issue of aid to the younger generation by warming to Islam and to establish organizations to help meet their needs was also developed.
The summit was supported by five religious organizations, including the Council Islam Eurasian, African Religious Leaders Summit, the meeting of European Muslims, the meeting of leaders of Balkan religious direction and peace, world moderation Islam Scholars and foresight initiative.
meetings which continued for four days stressed the need for Muslims in South America to be united. After the census, the number of Muslims residing in South America is estimated at nearly 30% of the population of South America.
Muslim representatives said that, unlike the West, there is very little Islamophobia and Muslim minorities are not as many problems that Muslims in other Christian countries. The head of the Islamic States-Cuban Association Yahya Pedro Lazo Torres, said they were free to practice their religion in the country of communist execution. Creation of the first Islamic center there nearly 20 years, Torres explained that Muslims were recognized by the socially and politically Constitution and allowed to teach Islam and Islamic sciences.
