SESRIC Launches Report on the Health of the OIC in 2013

Jakarta: The report of the OIC Health 2013, which was prepared by SESRIC (Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training for Islamic countries) was officially launched at the 4th session of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers (CIMS), which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, recently. The report of the OIC Health 2013 provides a detailed analysis of trends in key health indicators in the OIC member countries at the OIC group on average and in each country and sub-regional level OIC. The report also highlights some health problems in these countries, such as health costs, the use of communication technologies (ICT) and Information in the health sector, "e-health" and efforts and OIC cooperation initiatives in the field of health. The report emphasizes the significant improvement in the coverage of health care in the OIC countries. However, it also stresses that, despite the positive trend, the OIC member countries are still lagging behind in the world and the developing country average. The report shows that the situation of the coverage of health care remained significantly poor in member countries located in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa region mainly due to lack of adequate and sustainable financial resources, poor health infrastructure , insufficient trained health personnel and the slow pace of reform health progress. The report stresses that the nature and extent of these major challenges facing the health sector in many OIC member countries need a greater commitment of governments to higher health sector their national development programs and building health infrastructure and trained manpower to meet current needs and future demands for health services
