UAE launches project to largest library in the Middle East
Dubai Vice-President of UAE, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched last month, a draft of AED 1 billion to build the largest library in the region. The seven-story Library Mohammed bin Rashid will be built on an area of one million square feet to Al Jaddaf. It is expected to open in 2017 and will house more than 4.5 million books and has several zones of interaction, events, activities, educational and cultural festivals. There will also be a museum of Arab heritage and history of human civilization, as well as places for arts and literary exhibitions, heritage preservation initiatives and a 500-seat theater for lectures, seminars and launch 'intellectual and cultural initiatives at regional and global level. "We are the leaders of civilization, duty and culture, and so we need to revive the spirit of learning and curiosity in our culture through innovative initiatives that drive our borders," said Sheikh Mohammed during the launch event. "That's why we decided to start the year playing in launching this state-of-the-art library and let everyone know that we will transform the UAE into a cultural center and the Arab world while learning and in strongly establishing reading as standard society. "
