"A standard surgical robot costs about € 1.3 million. While robotic surgery is a fast growing area of medicine, the concept is new to the UAE," said Prof. Panfili. He said that robotic surgery has had a 99.7 percent rate of success - about 10 percent better than traditional operations. The technology also minimizes damage to the patient. Prof. Panfili said he hoped the center would be built in the next two to five years, and will include a training center for surgeons.
